Leatherback Nesting

Turtle Tours – Playa Grande is home to Parque Marino Las Baulas, the nesting grounds of the leatherback turtle. During nesting season, guided tours are available to watch the turtles nest. Please do not go on the beach at night during nesting season without a guide as the utmost care must be taken with the turtles. |

Playa Grande Yoga – Playa Grande is home to many yoga practioners. You can find morning classes with Gregory at Ripjack at 8AM on Tuesdays and Fridays. Dori teaches at PGI at 4PM on Mondays and Wednesdays. |

Estuary Tours – The national park also encompasses the estuary that separates Playa Grande from Tamarindo. Boat tours leave from Tamarindo and Bula Bula and show you many native species amongst the mangrove including Howler Monkeys, Crocodiles, many species of bird, crabs, turtles, and other animals. You can also rent sea kayaks if you feel like paddling. |

Surfing – Playa Grande has big enough waves in some parts for intermediate to advanced surfers, but also has plenty of waves ideal for beginners. Board rentals can be found in different spots in Grande as well as surf instruction. You can also arrange for trips to famous surf spots like Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point. Sport Fishing – Costa Rica has some of the best sport fishing in the world. Boats leave from Tamarindo and Flamingo to fish for Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Rooster Fish and other smaller species. |
 Horseback Riding at Playa Conchal |
Horseback Riding – Guanacaste is cattle country, and many local cowboys offer nature tours on horseback. Nice views can be found from the hills above Playa Grande. |

ATV Tours – 4×4 operators will take you on a tour of the countryside as you may even get wet as you cross streams and drive through mud. |
Golf Near Playa Grande

There are currently two world-class golf courses near Playa Grande at Hacienda Pinilla and Reserva Conchal, both about 15 minutes away. |
 Scuba Diving |
Scuba Diving – Dive boats leave from Flamingo and Tamarindo. Good diving can be found off the Catalina Islands, which are a short distance out to sea from Flamingo. |
 Snorkeling |
Snorkeling – many sheltered coves around Playa Grande offer great snorkeling. Bahia Las Piratas and the southern end of Playa Conchal are good options. |
 Arenal Volcano |
Volcano Tours – Day tours are available to Rincon de La Vieja National Park near Liberia. There you can enjoy mud baths and great hiking. You can also make an overnight trip to Arenal Volcano, where you will see hot rocks falling down the sides of the volcano and can also enjoy the hot springs and waterfall hike. |

Bungee Jumping – If you are traveling through San Jose to Playa Grande, you may want to stop off in Naranjo to jump off the old Colorado Bridge. Watch the trees fly by as you dive into the ravine. |
